Based on the story of the same name by Ion Creanga, Ivan Turbinca is an old soldier to whom - for a good deed he does - God grants him a wish. Ivan prays to God to bless his whirlpool, so that he has the power to put and keep in it whatever he wishes. "Pasol na turbina ciorti!" are the words Ivan uses to put devils in his whirlpool, tricking even Death, keeping her prisoner in his whirlpool.

Inspired by Zhang Ling's essay, The Great Tangshan Earthquake, Riingo's latest offering, Na Hanaytte, which means it never dies, is a poignant tale of a woman, Jui, who is caught in a situation where she could save only one of her kids and leave the other to die. Being a mother, Jui could never forgive herself for having to choose between her two children Ratan and Shiuli. But life goes on... years go by... The film is about relationships and how they gradually change in times of crisis.

At the center of the story is the relationship of a young mother with her 14-year-old daughter, who actually considers her mother to be an older sister, and her grandparents - real parents.

Because of the war, a 12-year-old boy from England, Hugh, is sent to live with the Andrews family in Ohio. Don, the Andrews' 11-year-old son, eagerly accepts the English boy, and is happy when his school-friends do the same. But his isn't so happy when things begin to change when his father fore-goes their evening game of Chinese Checkers to play chess with Hugh, and Hugh shows himself to be a formidable scholar, and impresses Don's girlfriend Betty, and becomes more popular with the boys than Don was...and Don is beginning to think that Hugh is too much of a good thing. Don gets downright depressed and decides to run away. Uh, oh, here comes Hugh.

When an inexperienced police officer discovers a corpse while inspecting a crime scene, he flees with no explanation. However, that action will help his unit to recover some stolen jewels during a robbery.

A dark atmosphere pervades this film in true noir fashion. So does the feeling that our principals are trapped. They fight their way against economic forces and their status in life, and love might conquer all.
