Blood-C: The Last Dark

A rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photojournalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.

In Russia, there has long been a society of billiards, whose members are scattered throughout the country. Many of them have long become millionaires. And they should thank the old school teachers for this. Most of these old people live starving and lonely. In order to somehow brighten up their old age, the new generation of billiards decided to chip in and give their teachers a big mansion, where there will be decent food, good medical care and fresh air. No one refused his share of the contribution, except for an authority by the name of Savitsky. Soon, he completely changes his mind and organizes an ambush on the road, takes away not only his own money, but also his total money. The barely surviving couriers report this to all members of the community. The group comes up with a decent punishment by sending him a professional pool player nicknamed Classic. The bandit will have to fight with a virtuoso who prefers to play for large sums in order to save money.

In 1992, Min-young, a member of the university protest music group Wildflower Sound, joins forces with the ideological study circle Flag to support workers at Samhyung Industries, who are striking after going six months without pay. On the day of the strike, riot police launch a violent crackdown. Workers and student musicians alike are beaten and dragged away. In response, fellow students form a resistance line to rescue them. The standoff escalates into a massive clash between citizens and police—broadcast live on national news. Compelled by something greater, Min-young steps onto the stage and cries out: "We are not rioters!" A roar of unified voices rises and echoes across the nation. “Arise, you who live—The day is coming!”

Nishiyama Hiyori is a really shy and short (only 140cm tall) 15-year-old girl, who had been hospitalized for a whole year, due to a car accident. Now that she returns to school, she wants to quickly adapt to the new surroundings. Just when she was about to introduce herself to her new classmates, a boy named Hirose Yuushin (190cm tall) walks in. He is open and always happy, quite in contrast to her shy and quiet being. Sitting next to each other and thanks to his personality, Hiyori slowly loses her shyness.

“Using footage shot during the first Aboriginal Land Rights demonstrations in Sydney, and when the police tore down the ‘Aboriginal Embassy’ in front of Parliament House in Canberra, Dark juxtaposes this violent struggle with images (taken from a tourist slide) of an old Aboriginal warrior imprisoned, in his mind, in his own country. As an immigrant to Australia I’d understood what it feels like to be a stranger, and had experienced hurtful comments and prejudice (…‘bloody German’). So I thought, this is funny, these people have been here for donkey’s years, and they to go out in the streets to fight for their own land. I used various mechanisms to let this injustice, this anger out…in particular, zooming through a comb onto the image of the old warrior…letting his emotion stream out through the bars.” (Paul Winkler)
