"Maintenance by any Means" is about two maintenance men vying for the position of maintenance supervisor in an apartment complex. 1989: 64th and last year of the Showa era. A girl is kidnapped and killed. The unsolved case is called Case 64 ('rokuyon'). 2002: Yoshinobu Mikami, who was the detective in charge of the Case 64, moves as a Public Relations Officer in the Police Affairs Department. His relation with the reporters is conflicted and his own daughter is missing. The statute of limitations for the Case 64 will expire in one year. Then a kidnapping case, similar to the Case 64, takes place. The rift between the criminal investigation department and police administration department deepens. Mikami challenges the case as a public relations secretary.

Story about the search for identity. With the lead character being adopted and trying to find the missing puzzle piece of where she comes from. With the help of modern technology and DNA testing she is able to make a connection with a biological relative, who invites her and her friends down to Louisiana. However with this new connection comes an old family secret, one that was suppose to stay hidden from her.

The work is constituted from video footage of scenery and encounters with locals in the coastal city of Rikuzentakata, which was devastated by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. The artists spent three years and eight months documenting the region, subsequently constructing their footage to create a narrative.
